Adoption

US Kids, Names J to K

Jazzlynn

Jazzlynn is a great self-advocate—the kind of kid who really knows what she likes, what she needs, and what she is looking for. She appreciates having fun and would thrive as part of a family that enjoys getting outside and being active together. Jazzlynn also knows how to relax and take time to herself, usually by composing poetry or writing in her journal. She is a friendly, inquisitive, and creative kid who would really like to be adopted.

In her free time, Jazzlynn can usually be found doing one of her favorite activities. She really enjoys being able to spend time outside, whether playing with her friends or riding her bike around the neighborhood. She also loves a game night and is always ready for some competitive fun.

Jazzlynn expresses herself through her writing, and her creative energy is often articulated through the poetry she writes. It’s a healthy and comforting exercise that she really prioritizes. When Jazzlynn is engaged with school, she loves learning. She says she does best in smaller learning environments. She aims to become photographer or a youth counselor some day.

Drawn to extracurricular activities, Jazzlyn likes to participate in sports, especially volleyball. She is also looking forward to a few upcoming events in her life. She will participate in a work crew and will also attend a few overnight camps where she can spend time with kids her age and learn about work ethics and how to make and save money.

There are a few really significant connections in Jazzlynn’s life that she would like to maintain. Having a family who is open and supportive about these biological connections will be vital. Jazzlynn’s heritage is also very important to her; and by staying connected to some members of her biological family, she will also be able to stay connected to her culture.

Jazzlynn is a very upbeat kid with a naturally positive outlook on the world. She would really like to be adopted and is very open to pretty much any family configuration. She will likely do well with a strong maternal influence and older siblings, who can act as role models as she navigates her teen years.

Jessa

Jessa is a curious child with a fun sense of humor. She really enjoys being outdoors, so obviously NW Trek is one of her favorite places to visit. Jessa also loves animals and enjoys caring for them. She currently helps to look after a cat, dog, and goats. She is also involved in equine therapy, which she really enjoys and finds helpful in learning to be calm. Her care team thinks it would be wonderful to find a family that would continue this type of therapy for her. Jessa also enjoys music and, of course, ice cream!

Cognitively and emotionally, Jessa is much younger than her age. She has a specially designed instruction program to support her learning challenges and to help her with emotional needs and adaptive skills. Jessa is engaging with the adults who help care for her. A family who can provide a lot of supervision, and who is experienced with children with special needs and a history of trauma, would be a good fit for Jessa.

Joel

Joel is a charming, often playful young boy with a wonderful smile and a love of being silly. Joel is very attached to his caregivers at the pediatric medical residential center where he lives. He loves to be held, tickled, and chased. Joel is very attached to his iPad, it’s among his very favorite playthings. He is also very fond of Elmo!

Joel was born with multiple complex medical issues, including a genetic condition. Joel’s daily life is impacted in many ways due to his medical issues and his repeated risk for infection. Joel has a feeding tube and is unable to eat or drink by mouth. He has very limited eye sight and is extremely photosensitive, whether inside or outside. Joel has limited ability to speak and communicates primarily through grunts and hand gestures.

Despite all of his limitations, Joel appears to have a good quality of life. He does very well socializing with staff and other kids. It is very clear that despite Joel's inability to speak, he understands most of what is being said to him and responds to requests and direction.

Joel seems to vacillate between being rather lethargic (probably when he’s not feeling that great) to being very energetic and wanting to run around, laughing and being a bit mischievous. When he is lethargic, likes to be held and snuggled. Joel can be a bit of a handful when he is in active mode, but it is great to see him feeling good.

Joel is doing very well with his gross motor skills and is an "emerging symbolic communicator.” He uses one sign at a time to communicate needs/wants in a few specific situations. He understands routines and has a basic understanding of simple one step directions. Joel attends school and has a 1:1 aid assigned to help him.

For families who want to make a difference in Joel’s life, there are a few different placement options. A family could make a long-term commitment to visit and be his “special” people but not adopt; a family could adopt him and have home visits on special occasions (while Joel continues living at his medical center). Finally, it is also possible, under the right circumstances, that Joel could live with the family who adopts him. In this situation, a family in the Seattle/Tacoma area would be best, as it will be challenging to transition him from his life and medical team.

Joey

Joey is a delightful kid with tons of interests; including dinosaurs, science, and playing the piano. Building with Legos is among his favorite things to do, along with racing remote control cars. He is also a huge fan of all things Jurassic Park, whether it be movies, books, games or toys!

When out with friends in the neighborhood, Joey has adventures riding his bike and climbing trees. He’s an active guy who likes swimming and jumping on trampolines, (especially now that he can do a front flip)!

At school, Joey’s excellent attendance record is a huge source of pride for him. His favorite subject is math, and he really enjoys reading. Joey is a very scientific thinker and enthusiastic about going to the library to check out books. He’s also very artistic and talented at drawing and photography. Joey benefits from having teachers who help him stay on task, with gentle prompts and redirection as needed. He would do really well as part of a family who prioritizes organization and education. After-school activities are Joey’s favorite part of the school year. He really enjoys being able to have a bit of fun with his friends after a day of learning. He was recently on the track team and did great. It turns out, he’s an expert javelin thrower!

Joey is proud of his Native American heritage, and would love to be able to share some cultural experiences with a family. It will be very important for his adoptive family to also take great pride in his heritage and be able to provide opportunities for him to participate in that community’s cultural and social activities. A family that already has Native American connections could be an especially good fit.

Joey will do well with a family that can provide the structure, support, and consistency he thrives on. A nurturing couple, or a single mom or single dad, with lots of time and attention to share, would be wonderful for him. It would be ideal for Joey to remain in the Pacific Northwest. He would do best as an only child or with just one or two much older siblings. Joey would benefit from having parents who want the joy and rewards of parenting a playful, active boy who loves learning about the world around him.

Kamario

Kamario does it all, and he does it all well. He’s an athlete, singer, and dancer. He dabbles in many activities to discover his strengths and passions. With a love of performing, Kamario is a very strong dancer and enjoys presenting his craft to the world. For years now, he has taken tap and hip-hop dance classes, and has performed on stage numerous times.

Kamario is very active and athletic. He recently enrolled in Taekwondo and has been doing really well in class. Riding his bicycle, shooting hoops, and playing in general are all among his favorite things to do. Kamario is competitive, but thoughtful – a combination that makes him a good team player and a motivated athlete. In his down time, Kamario enjoys playing video games and watching movies, especially when he has the chance to go to the theater! Kamario also enjoys attending church and learning more about his faith.

An intelligent student, Kamario is a very strong reader and picks up on concepts quickly. His current classroom environment is helpful for Kamario’s learning style. He is working on expressing any feelings of frustration in appropriate ways, and with the help of his current teachers, has made noticeable progress. Kamario is smart, curious, and determined. With the right support, he has the ability to really thrive.

Kamario would really like to be adopted. He would do well with a patient and nurturing family, particularly one with older siblings who can help mentor and support him. Kamario is excellent at communicating his needs and deserves a family who can listen and provide for him, as he works through his feelings and continues to make progress. Kamario is also very bonded to his biological brother and sisters. Having a family who can help support and nurture those bonds will be crucial for him as well.

Khristopher

Kind and affectionate, Khristopher is a delightful boy with a “melt your heart” smile. He’s made some huge gains since he has been with his foster family, especially with his communication skills. He now really enjoys interacting with others, and he loves spending time with his friends and caring adults.
Khristopher loves to sing! He has lots of fun participating in karaoke at home and being in a choir. At his daycare program, Kristopher enjoys creating with arts and crafts, and playing with Legos. He also has fun participating in Boy Scouts, which provides him with many opportunities to be active and interact with others.

A boy who enjoys school, Khristopher is doing well in a small classroom environment. Behaviorally, he is somewhat younger than his chronological age, but he is benefiting from having some extra supports and he continues to make academic progress.

Khristopher likes to participate in counseling. He has developed a relationship with his counselor and enjoys having a special adult to spend time with, talking about how he is doing and sharing his thoughts and feelings. It will be important for his adoptive family to be supportive of continuing with such resources.

Khristopher is close to his foster parent and gets along with the other children in the home. He is affectionate and enjoys participating in family activities. Khristopher’s foster parent describes him as a boy with a wonderful imagination who is “just wanting to belong”. He needs nurturing caregiver(s) who will take time to listen attentively, be consistent, and provide clear expectations.

Couples and single moms who have a good repertoire of behavioral strategies, (and who can provide a nurturing environment, with positive parenting skills) will be very helpful in providing a home where Khristopher will thrive. A musically inclined family, that can nurture and encourage Khristopher’s love of choir and singing, could be especially wonderful for him!
