Adoptions from China
In 1990, WACAP placed a Chinese baby girl with an American family living in Guangdong Province. Since then, WACAP has worked closely with Chinese government adoption officials, orphanage officials and adoptive families to build an environment that best meets the needs of everyone involved in uniting Chinese orphans with American families.
"I adopted a little girl from China 13 years ago and cannot imagine a more perfect child for me. WACAP made it very clear that we were becoming a multicultural family and that it was very important for your child to understand the culture that she came from. I think that she has come to believe that her life can be both cultures, with a foot in each world, not needing to choose one or the other."

By adhering to the highest ethical standards in international adoption, WACAP has built a strong relationship with the Chinese governmental adoption offices, particularly the China Center for Children’s Welfare and Adoption - or CCCWA - (formerly known as the CCAA). Under the leadership of our China experts, Mary Moo and Bixin Huang, our China adoption team will provide the best services in helping to unite your family with a child in China who is waiting for a loving home. Over the years we’ve united more than 2,000 children from China with new parents.
WACAP is proud to have been named an accredited agency under the Hague Convention on International Adoption. Effective April 1, 2008, all adoptive families are required to work with a Hague-accredited agency in order to adopt from China.
Our China online slideshow is currently being updated.
More recently, there have been changes in the homestudy and post-placement requirements for families wishing to adopt from China. If you would like more information about the process or fees associated with adoption from China, or you have questions about your adoption application, please contact us.
ADOPTING A WAITING CHILD FROM CHINA
WACAP’s Family Finders department has access to the CCCWA’s Shared List of over 1,500 waiting children in China. These children may be waiting for a home because they are older, or because of a special medical or developmental need they may have. Many families are surprised to learn that there are many young boys waiting for homes in China, as well as girls. The time it takes to adopt a waiting child from China can often be much shorter than waiting for a traditional, healthy infant referral. For more information on China’s waiting children, email our Family Finders team.
Journey of Hope Project
In an exclusive partnership with the China Center for Children’s Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA), WACAP has accepted the task of finding homes for older children (ages 10-13) living in China’s Henan province. Under Chinese law, children become ineligible for adoption on their 14th birthday. Because of their age, these children are now at risk of losing the chance for a permanent family. Learn More.
