Helping Children in the United States

School supplies and child advocacy
Thousands of America’s working families struggle to make ends meet. Illness or job loss can plunge a family into financial crisis. Although welfare assistance can help with some expenses, many families still find it difficult to provide their children with clothing, school supplies or money for extracurricular activities.

WACAP works with other social service agencies to help elementary and middle school children in Washington state. We supply needy children with such necessities as backpacks, notebooks and gym uniforms. We also provide clothing (which children often can choose for themselves) and financial assistance for activities such as book fairs and field trips. This support relieves some of the pressure on families. It enables children to share fully in student life and motivates them to perform better in the classroom. As a result, they may stay in school longer, and their family lives often improve.

We also provide political and social advocacy for U.S. children in need. Our efforts include support for legislation and social change to benefit children who don’t have the protection of permanent families.
